When I got back to Washington there were forty six Serbo- Croatian translators at the hotel and three Hungarians, of which I was one.
Due to the delay in Europe because of the bad weather we were stranded in our hotel in Falls Church for almost a month before we were sent to Fort Benning, Georgia to continue to in-process. I thought that it was ironic that I was stationed at Fort Benning with the US Army in 1967.
Once we arrived in Fort Benning there was more paperwork, more physical exams, lots of shots and eventually getting military uniforms and other gear issued to everyone before we were sent to Germany.
There comes a time in a person’s life when something unexpected happens to them that changes their life forever. For me, this experience was that moment and I haven’t looked back since,
